Internationally recognized stage and screen superstar Kim Cattrall and rising Broadway headliner Seth Numrich currently star in the West End in the rapturously received Old Vic production of the Tennessee Williams classic SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH and the stately leading players switched roles with their cast-mates for a recent special one-off performance.

Continuing a long-standing West End - and, more specifically, Old Vic - tradition, the stars shorn themselves of their central roles for two minor supporting parts - that of Violet and Bud - while their understudies got their chance to shine in lead roles of Chance Wayne and Alexandra Del Lago.

The stars posed in costume and in character for two amusing photos depicting the unique theatre tradition as it played out both backstage and onstage - the latter with the rest of the entire company, natch - at the vaunted Old Vic this weekend.

SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH depicts the tale of a fading movie star and her handsome young companion as they bicker, battle, barter and booze it up while locked away in a hotel room over a very long weekend as well as the goings-on in Chance's hometown at the same time involving the affluent Finley family.

Geraldine Page and Paul Newman famously starred in the original 1959 production as well as the 1962 feature film. The only previous West End production occurred in 1985 and starred Lauren Bacall and Michael Beck.

SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH plays through August 31 at The Old Vic Theatre in the West End.
