From Gerard Alessandrini, the mastermind behind Forbidden Broadway, comes Spamilton, a sneak peek into his ongoing obsession with Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. This summer, for 18 performances only, audiences will have the opportunity to share in Alessandrini's madness, at the Triad (158 West 72nd Street), for an evening that celebrates, roasts and eviscerates the Broadway blockbuster. The first performance will take place on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.
Starring a hot young cast that includes Juwan Crawley, Chris Anthony Giles, Nicholas Alexander Rodriguez, Dan Rosales, and Nora Schell, along with special surprise guest stars, including Christine Pedi and additional divas, who will pop in weekly to add to the fun.
"Like most of the country, I became obsessed with Hamilton and Lin-Manuel Miranda's revolutionary score," said Alessandrini. "I believe his stunning reinvention on how to musicalize a dramatic story completely revived the Broadway Musical from being a dead art form. After satirizing musicals for 30 years, I couldn't help but feel obligated to take a few jabs at the biggest hit musical that has opened in New York in my lifetime. At first, I started to write just a parody or two for fun, and then I suddenly found myself re-writing most of Hamilton while adding bits and pieces of other classic and contemporary musicals. What came out is a wild mash up of the Fabulous Invalid called Broadway and the hip-hop hype of Hamilton. The show is fabulous. The hype is unprecedented. Hamilton spam is everywhere. Voila! Spamilton!"
In addition to Alessandrini, the creative team of Spamilton includes Gerry McIntyre (Choreography), Dustin Cross (Costume Design), Richard Danley (Music Direction), and Michael Cassara, CSA (Casting Director). The show is produced by David Zippel and John Freedson.
Ticket for Spamilton are $49, plus a 2 drink minimum. For a complete performance schedule and to purchase tickets, please click here: http://www.triadnyc.com/buy-tickets.
