AMERICAN IDOL champ and country music superstar Carrie Underwood is set to conquer yet another medium when she takes on the coveted and celebrated role of Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC in a special live TV production on NBC this December and the star spoke about her current preparation for the part in a new interview earlier this week.

"It's a live TV event," Underwood says.

"It's not the movie, it's the musical - it's different," she asserts.

"Everyone is singing live," Underwood says.

As for her recent European vacation and how she utilized it to its best advantage? "We were in Austria - we saw where [the Von Trapps] lived and all of that. Of course, we saw all the places they filmed for the movie."

As for Underwood's favorite song from the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein score? "The Lonely Goatherd"! She reveals her affection for a number of other show-stoppers from the show, as well.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC starring Carrie Underwood airs live on NBC on December 5.
