Carey Mulligan Nabs Two Chicago Film Critics Awards
This morning, the recipients of the Chicago Film Critics Awards were announced and theater's Carey Mulligan walked away with two honors, one for Best Actress in a Feature Film and the other for Most Promising Performer. As previously reported, the nominees also included some theatrical favorites including Meryl Streep for Julia & Julia, and Michael Stuhlbarg for A Serious Man. Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air" and Spike Jonze' "Where the Wild Things Are" each scored six nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. The big winner was undoubtedly The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow's incendiary action drama following the lives of the members of a bomb disposal unit stationed in Iraq. The film swept all five awards that it was nominated for, taking home prizes for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay (for Mark Boal), Best Actor (Jeremy Renner) and Best Cinematography (Barry Ackroyd).
