Love Song
a comedy by John Kolvenbach
directed by Rhonda Clark
Performs February 19 - March 13, 2010
Rehearsals begin on January 11

SYNOPSIS: A 2007 Olivier Award nominee for Best New Comedy that premiered at Chicago's famed Steppenwolf Theatre in 2006. Beane is an exile from life - an oddball. His well-meaning sister & brother-in-law try to make time for him, but no one seems to get through. Following a burglary at Beane's apartment, he turns blissfully happy. Baffled, his sister must try to unravel the story behind his mysterious new love, Molly. This offbeat comedy becomes a rhapsody to the power of love in all its forms.

CAST: 2-3 Men, 2 Women.

Beane (late 20s-40s) Probably autistic, at the play's start, he's a hopelessly lonely and reclusive tollbooth worker. When he falls in love, we see him transform.

Harry (40-50) Beane's brother-in-law whose marriage is in a slump. He's playful and is always trying to get his wife to lighten up.

Joan (35-50) Beane's sister who is married to Harry. She's a complete Type-A personality and a career-driven businesswoman at the play's start.

Molly (late 20s-30s) A woman who breaks into Beane's apartment and robs him of his few possessions. She's confident, forceful and capable of violence, and of course, Beane falls hopelessly in love with her - even if she might be a figment of his imagination.

Waiter (no specific age) Bill feels stuck working as a waiter, but he needs the money. This role can be doubled with the role of Harry.
