CRIMES OF THE HEART Reading Reunites Broadway Originals, 10/27

By:

The Original Broadway Cast of CRIMES OF THE HEART will reunite next Tuesday, October 27th, for a reading of the play at the Fairfield Theatre Company in Fairfield, CT. FTC Board Member and Tony Nominee, Mia Dillon will join original cast members Mary Beth Hurt, Liz McKay, Sharon Ullrick, and Ray Baker for this one night presentation.

CRIMES OF THE HEART, by Beth Henley, surrounds the three Magrath sisters, Meg, Babe, and Lenny, who reunite at Old Granddaddy's home in Hazlehurst, Mississippi after Babe shoots her abusive husband. The trio was raised in a dysfunctional family with a penchant for ugly predicaments and each has endured her share of hardship and misery. Past resentments bubble to the surface as they're forced to deal with assorted relatives and past relationships while coping with the latest incident that has disrupted their lives. Each sister is forced to face the consequences of the "crimes of the heart" she has committed.

The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1981, as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play. It also received four Tony nominations, Best Play, two nominations for Best Featured Actress in a Play (Mia Dillon and Mary Beth Hurt), and Best Direction of a Play (Melvin Bernhardt) at the 1982 Tony Awards.

Mia Dillon made her Broadway debut in Da in 1978. She was nominated for the 1980 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Once a Catholic) and the 1982 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play (Crimes of the Heart). Additional theater credits include Agnes of God, The Corn is Green, Hay Fever, Come Back, Little Sheba, Three Sisters, and Our Town.

The reading will take place Tuesday, October 27th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $27 with a $5 discount for all FTC members. Tickets for the reading are available online or through the Fairfield Theatre Company box office at 203-259-1036.
