CATCO Presents World Premiere of PIERCE TO THE SOUL, 4/7-4/25

Columbus, Ohio's CATCO will present the world premiere of Chiquita Mullins Lee's PIERCE TO THE SOUL from April 7 thru April 25, 2010 at the Riffe Center Studio Two Theatre.
PIERCE TO THE SOUL follows Elijah Pierce, born the son of a former Mississippi slave. He migrated north in the early 1900s and settled in Columbus to become a preacher, barbershop owner, and one of America's most celebrated folk artists. PIERCE TO THE SOUL, a world premiere written by Columbus playwright Chiquita Mullins Lee, celebrates this hometown hero-his struggles, his triumphs, and the vibrant life that swirled around him in Columbus for more than 50 years.Chiquita Mullins Lee, who lives in Columbus, began her career as a public television producer-director in Nashville, Tennessee, and worked in media for more than 20 years. Lee was scriptwriter for TechKNOWKids, which aired in Chicago, Illinois, and received an Emmy nomination in 2001. CATCO has featured her work in its Shorts Festivals 2000 and 2004. She co-wrote and performs in MYRLIE, BETTY, and CORETTA: THE MOTHERS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, playing the role of Coretta Scott King. She conducts creative writing workshops and residencies for adults, teens and school-aged children. Lee earned her BA from Vassar College, an MA from Ohio University, and a second MA from The Ohio State University.
