Bumpas Receives 2010 Demos Scholarship

By:

On September 16, 2010, Lyric Theatre and ThElma Gaylord Academy will present the Nick Demos Merit Scholarship Award to its 2010 award recipient, Adrian Bumpas.

This honor is awarded by Lyric Theatre and ThElma Gaylord Academy to a junior or senior high school student enrolled in the ThElma Gaylord Academy.  The winner of this merit award is a student who is committed to musical theatre, exudes love for the arts and who is an emerging "triple threat" that has outstanding talent in singing, dancing and acting. The 2010 Nick Demos Merit Scholarship Award will be presented to 17-year-old Adrian Bumpas of Oklahoma City. Adrian, a senior Drama Major at Classen School of Advanced Studies, has been a student at Lyric Theatre's ThElma Gaylord Academy since it opened in 2002.  Adrian has been in many of the Academy's productions such as Grease (Rizzo) and George M (Ethel Levey) as well as Lyric Theatre's Civic Center productions of Sound of Music (Marta), Annie (Duffy), Evita, High School Musical 2 and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  After graduating high school, Adrian plans on pursuing a musical theatre career and hopefully attend the University of Oklahoma for its theatre program.

This scholarship award was named after the 2010 Tony Award Winning producer and Lyric Theatre's former Artistic Director, Nick Demos.  During Nick's time at Lyric Theatre, Lyric has seen unprecedented growth. Nick, along with Executive Director Paula Stover, transitioned Lyric Theatre from a summer theatre residing at the Oklahoma City University campus into a year-round theatre company with a children's academy, administrative and Production Offices, rehearsal spaces and two new performance venues.  He has raised the standard of Lyric's production quality and has brought national recognition to the company.
