Bryce Dessner and Aaron Dessner’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival
Brooklyn Academy Of Music
May 5, 6:00PM (45-minute set)
An enthusiastic champion of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, indie-rock star Bryce Dessner is writing a new piece for the chorus that will be premiered at his new Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival at BAM. The BYC will also perform new works by singer/songwriter Shara Worden (of the Brooklyn band My Brightest Diamond), composers John King and Missy Mazzoli, and a reprise of Sarah Kirkland Snider’s captivating piece Here, which the BYC debuts at Roulette in March. Dessner and the BYC last collaborated in 2011 as part of Nico Muhly’s Tell the Way.
NY Philharmonic presents Carmina Burana
Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center
May 31 at 7:30pm; June 1 and June 2 at 8:00pm
BYC performs with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall under Maestro Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos in Carl Orff’s celebrated Carmina Burana.
BYC ollaborations with the orchestra began in 2002, with the Chorus’s performance under Music Director Loren Maazel in the world premiere of John Adams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning On the Transmigration of Souls, for which BYC received a Grammy Award. In 2009, the BYC performed nine concerts with the New York Philharmonic, as Maestro Maazel ended his tenure with a series of choral blockbusters.
