'Broadway With A Twist' - At The Waterfront

By:

The Waterfront Playhouse will kick off their 70th 'Platinum' Season with a talent-packed, two night concert - "Broadway With A Twist." This gender-bending extravaganza will star over 30 of Key West's best performers singing show stoppers usually performed by the opposite sex. The guys will do numbers made famous by Broadway divas, and the gals will reciprocate with songs made famous by Broadway dudes. Coordinated by the Playhouse's Artistic Director, Danny Weathers, it promises to be an evening not to be missed.

The concerts will be held on Friday, November 20, which will feature a gala post-performance party catered by the Elwell family's Iron Chefs and sponsored by Royal Windows and Floors. Friday evening is $70 (for 70 years of great theater in the Keys). The Saturday, November 21 evening will be $50, which features the same great concert, but with no after party.

The best of Key West musical theater is scheduled to appear: David Black, Laurie Breakwell, Karrie Carnes, Melody Cooper Joy Hawkins, Mary Falconer, Maj Johnson Michael McCabe, Erin McKenna, Bruce Moore, Mike Mulligan, Bobby Nesbitt, Marjorie Paul-Shook, Traci Reynolds, Randy Roberts, Carmen Rodriguez, Gordon Ross,  Vicki Roush, Dean Walters, Danny Weathers, John Wells, Henry Woods and several surprises Guest conductor Robert Strickland from Atlanta will once again accompany the singers, with Joe Dallas on bass and Skipper Kripitz on percussion.

The concert will feature numbers from the greatest hits of Broadway: "A Chorus Line," "Gypsy," "Dreamgirls," "Hairspray," "Chicago," "Guys and Dolls," "Damn Yankees," "South Pacific," "Annie," "Man of La Mancha," "Les Miserables" and more.

As George Fontana noted in his Conch Color review of last year's concert. "Everyone talks about the remarkable concentration of first-rate talent in Key West. The Waterfront Playhouse has done something about it and produced an event that would knock the socks off even the most jaded theater devotee...These Opening Concert have become an instant Key West show biz tradition. Bravo Waterfront Playhouse!"
