Brian Stokes Mitchell & Quartet To Perform In NYC 5/1, Benefits Local School

On Friday, May 1, 2009 Broadway icon Brian Stokes Mitchell and his quartet will perform in a benefit concert for Hunter College Elementary School. This event, "A Night With Friends," will raise funds for the HCES PTA to support a variety of classroom and extra-curricular programs for the children of Hunter College Elementary School, a publicly funded elementary school serving children from all over Manhattan. This much-anticipated concert event will take place in the newly renovated Hunter College Campus Schools auditorium, located at 71 East 94th Street, on May 1 from 8-9:30 p.m.

Brian Stokes Mitchell has starred in, among many productions, "Kiss Me Kate" (for which he won a Tony Award), "Man of La Mancha," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "Ragtime," "Jelly's Last Jam," "King Hedley II," and the PBS concert production of "South Pacific." He has performed as a solo artist and guest star at concerts all over the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Symphony Hall, Tanglewood, the Kennedy Center and the White House. He starred in the PBS concert of "South Pacific" at Carnegie Hall and most recently performed there in a sold-out solo concert.

This special fundraiser offers the opportunity to hear Brian Stokes Mitchell and his quartet in an intimate setting singing his critically lauded mix of Broadway, standards and jazz while aiding a very worthy cause.

In a difficult fundraising year, Mitchell, one of Broadway's greatest leading men, will lend his talents to the PTA of HCES to assist them in raising funds for the many programs at the school paid for by the PTA, among them, chess for all children K-6, curriculum investment, computers and new technology, residencies in dance with the National Dance Institute, instrumental music instruction, physical education programs, field trips, materials, books, and more.

Tickets are $25 for students, $50, $100 and $150. All are available on the HCES PTA website hcespta.org. The HCES PTA is a 501c 3 entity.
