According to Deadline.com, after Sandra Bullock pulled out of talks for upcoming Annie film remake as 'Miss Hannigan', Sony has quickly lined up and signed on her replacement - Cameron Diaz. The studio is also now aiming for a Christmas 2014 release.

As BWW reported last week, the actress and the studio recently resumed casting negotiations which had abruptly fallen apart in March. Will Smith and Jay-Z will produce the project starring Academy Award nominee Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role.

Diaz is most known for her films including The Mask, My Best Friend's Wedding, There's Something About Mary, Shrek, Bad Teacher, Vanilla Sky, Being John Malkovich and Gangs of New York. She started her career as a model and The Mask was her first starring role at age 21. Check out her singing turn in that film below!

Will Gluck is directing the forthcoming major motion picture remake of the beloved Charles Strouse/Thomas Meehan/Martin Charnin stage musical classic Annie from a revised script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. The film is aiming to begin production in late fall 2013.

The Tony Award-winning stage musical Annie has previously been filmed twice, the first time in 1982 with John Huston in the director's chair and later in a made-for-TV adaptation produced by Disney and helmed by CHICAGO director Rob Marshall in 1999. Annie is currently playing on Broadway in a James Lapine-directed revival starring Lilla Crawford, Jane Lynch and Anthony Warlow.
