Bramwell Tovey Leads the LA Phil and Pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk 9/7

By:

In the final week of the summer classical season, Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl Bramwell Tovey and the orchestra welcome 26-year-old pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk in his Hollywood Bowl debut in the original version of Tchaikovsky's rarely-heard Second Piano Concerto, Tuesday, September 7, at 8 p.m. Also on the program are Tchaikovsky's even rarer Jurists' March, Borodin's Polovtsian Dances and Tovey's own Urban Runway, a Los Angeles Philharmonic and New York Philharmonic co-commission.

The Hollywood Bowl's classical season concludes later in the week with the return of Los Angeles' leading dance company Diavolo performing a newly-commissioned world premiere ballet set to LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams' Fearful Symmetries. The program also includes Weber's Invitation to the Dance (orchestrated by Berlioz) and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

Alexander Gavrylyuk is the first prize winner of Horowitz International Piano Competition, Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition. In November 2009, he recorded the complete Prokofiev concerti with Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Gavrylyuk performs regularly at the Concertgebouw, Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Hall, Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House and Suntory Hall. His 2010 engagement highlights include concert tours with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and New York Philharmonic.
