Blithe Spirit at Boca's Caldwell Theatre
Noel Coward's
BLITHE SPIRIT
comes to
Caldwell Theatre Company
This comic play written by The Master, Noel Coward who considered Blithe Spirit the best work he'd ever written arrives at Caldwell Theatre Company just in time to celebrate the New Year. With a master cast performing a master's class act, Caldwell's second show of its Mainstage Season is the perfect way to celebrate and revel in the legendary wit that is Noel Coward and his Blithe Spirit.

Charles Condomine and his second wife, Ruth, host a dinner including a local clairvoyant. Madame Arcati holds a séance, bringing back the spirit of Charles' first wife, Elvira, who wishes to unsettle Charles' current marriage.
Blithe Spirit takes its name from the first line of Percy Bysshe Shelley's "Ode to a Skylark:" Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!/Bird thou never wert. The play premiered on June 16, 1941 at the Opera House in Manchester, England and set British box office records with its 1,997 consecutive performances. On December 30, 1969, David Lean's successful film based on the play premiered (starring Rex Harrison as Charles), exactly 36 years to the date before Caldwell's staging of the play.
Charles and Elvira's song was Irving Berlin's "Always," which is heard during the play. The lyrics take on new meaning when you realize Elvira is a ghost and Charles has remarried.
from "Always"
by Irving Berlin
Days may not be fair always,
That's when I'll be there always.
Not for just an hour,
Not for just a day,
Not for just a year,
But always.
Michael Hall directs Dennis Creaghan (Charles Condomine), Elizabeth Dimon (Madame Arcati), John Felix (Dr. Bradman), Jacqueline Knapp (Elvira), Margery Lowe (Edith), Angie Radosh (Mrs. Bradman) and Laura Turnbull (Ruth Condomine).
