'Bird Amongst the Blossom' Comes to the Metropolitan Room, 3/21

PlaidBiRD Productions and The Metropolitan Room will present "Bird Amongst the Blossom-A Tribute to the First Blossom Dearie Songbook" at The Metropolitan Room on Thursday, March 21st, 2013 at 9:30pm. Vocalist, Jaye Maynard, a recent participant at the renowned International Cabaret Conference at Yale, pays homage to the wised-up baby-doll jazz stylings of the late Blossom Dearie. Maynard received Pick of the Week by the International Review of Music in both LA and NYC for her performances stating: "Singer Jaye Maynard, fascinated by both the romance and the whimsy in Dearie's repertoire, has shaped the songs into a fascinating musical tribute." Additionally Alix Cohen of Cabaret Scenes wrote in Women Around Town: "Well put together, entertaining. The engaging Maynard...communicates lyrical meaning with skill and unexpected freshness."

Singer Jaye Maynard pays homage to the wised-up babydoll jazz stylings of the late Blossom Dearie, with Jon Delfin and Leon Lee Dorsey accompanying her. Maynard interprets "The First Blossom Dearie Songbook" containing songs written for and by her with Bob Dorough, Johnny Mercer, Dave Frishberg and of course, Dearie herself. The show had it's NYC cabaret venue debut at The Laurie Beechman Theater last fall and recently played Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal in North Hollywood/Los Angeles.
