Big Noise Theater Company Presents The Drowsy Chaperone

By:

Big Noise Theater Company presents their spring production, the 2006 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.

The Man in Chair, a Broadway fanatic, seeking to cure his "non-specific sadness", a state he calls "blue", listens to a recording of a fictional 1928 musical comedy, "The Drowsy Chaperone". Out of his record player... yes, record player... and onto the stage, the characters begin to magically appear. In the blink of an eye, his dingy apartment transforms into an over the top, Broadway Musical! Sparkling furniture, painted backdrops, glitzy costumes, a drunken chaperone and a gay wedding, "What more could you want in an evenings entertainment?" The Drowsy Chaperone is a tongue-in-cheek homage to American musicals of the Jazz Age, examining the amazing effects musicals have on fans who adore them.

Directed by Melissa Young (Chicago), Musical Direction by Robert Deason (Chicago), Choreography by Nancy Flaster (Glencoe) and Ann Fink (Chicago), Produced by Daiva Paulis (Chicago), Assistant Directed by Jesse Pierce (Chicago), and Set Design by Rick Paul (Wilmette), the designer of the original Chicago production of Grease, who is celebrating his 40th year in set design.
