Betty Buckley Brings Song & Scene Workshop to Fort Worth, 9/7

The legendary Broadway star, actress/singer Betty Buckley will offer a special Summer Workshop of Song Interpretation and Scene Study beginning September 7. The Fort Worth native will assist aspiring artists, educators and experienced performers in the craft of singing, acting and storytelling.

Ms. Buckley shares her expertise and guides her students through a methodology that facilitates audience connection through songs and monologues. Her emotional connection to songs and audiences is renowned, and that very connection is at the heart of what Ms. Buckley imparts to her students.

The Workshop consists of six class sessions. The next session begins on September 7. Classes begin at 6:30pm and last 4-5 hours and are held at the Museum of Modern Art in Fort Worth. Ms. Buckley guest stars on ABC Family's hit show Pretty Little Liars this August. Last winter, she co-starred in Dallas Theatre Center=s smash hit AArsenic and Old Lace. The Tony award winner has thrilled audiences for with acclaimed performances in such Broadway shows as Sunset Boulevard, Cats, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and 1776. Her highly praised starring role in the M. Night Shyamalan feature film The Happening, joins her other memorable film performances including Tender Mercies, Frantic, and Carrie. Last year she appeared in the new Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg mini-series The Pacific on HBO and her most recent film Five Time Champion will open in theatres soon. Last summer Ms. Buckley starred Off-Broadway in White=s Lies. In 2009, Ms. Buckley was honored with the Texas Medal of Arts Award for Theater and was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2007. She also has an extensive concert career and recently received rave reviews for her new show For the Love of Broadway! at the prestigious Feinstein's nightclub in NYC. The New York Times' Stephen Holden acclaimed "Betty Buckley was at the very top of her game." John Simon of Bloomberg Press raved "Equally accomplished as actress and singer, she pours a lifetime into every song."

Ms. Buckley has been a teacher for 40 years for people who want to perfect their ability to effectively communicate in their work and relationships. The class also welcomes auditors who participate in all aspects of the class except the individual coaching by Ms. Buckley.

The actor-singer works regularly in concert with her ensemble of musicians. Her solo CD, Stars and the Moon: Betty Buckley Live at the Donmar Warehouse, received a Grammy nomination. In 2007, she released a new CD Betty Buckley 1967, which hit the Billboard charts. In 2008, Quintessence with her quintet was released by Playbill and Sony BMG Broadway Masterworks. She has two new upcoming CDs, the recently released Bootleg: Boardmixes from the Road and Ghostlight produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett out in fall 2011.

Named for Buckley's outstanding contribution to the musical theatre, The Betty Lynn Buckley Awards honor outstanding Musical Theatre in Tarrant County high schools.
