Berkeley Playhouse's Next KidStage Production Will Be DISNEY’S PETER PAN JR

By:

Berkeley Playhouse presents its next KidStage production, DISNEY'S PETER PAN JR. Fantastic adventures await Wendy and her brothers when Peter Pan, the hero of their stories, whisks them away to the magical world of Neverland. With Peter, and his feisty sidekick, Tinker Bell, they explore Peter's secret hideout with the rambunctious Lost Boys, and leap into high-flying battles with Indians, swashbuckling pirates, and the infamous Captain Hook.

Marissa Wolf (Crowded Fire Theater, Shotgun Players) and Dan Saski (Sonoma County Repertory Theater, Into the Woods at Berkeley Playhouse) direct two separate youth casts, featuring more than 60 Berkeley Playhouse KidStage students, in this moving adventure for the kid in all of us who won't grow up. DISNEY'S PETER PAN JR. features music from and inspired by the J.M. Barrie play and Disney's 1953 animated classic, including such favorites as "You Can Fly, You Can Fly, You Can Fly" and "It's a Pirates Life for Me!," with musical direction by Rachel Robinson (Boxcar Theatre, Willows Theatre Company) and choreography by Linnea Snyderman (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at Berkeley Playhouse).

Berkeley Playhouse believes that kids and teens have the ability to command their own audiences. The company's acclaimed KidStage program gives talented students the opportunity to participate in full-scale youth-only productions of the highest quality with some of the best professional directors, choreographers, and designers in the Bay Area. Cast members of KidStage productions receive ongoing training in acting, voice, and movement.

Nominated for eight and winner of five BATCC Awards for 2011, Berkeley Playhouse was founded by actor, director, and teacher for over 20 years, Elizabeth McKoy. Under the artistic guidance of McKoy, and Managing Director Lauren Hewitt, Berkeley Playhouse is a professional theater for all ages that presents a season of year-round musicals, providing children and families with unique and sophisticated musical theater experiences. In addition, Berkeley Playhouse has a music theater conservatory, which offers a range of educational instruction classes in music performance skills. In 2009, Berkeley Playhouse made its permanent performance home at the historic Julia Morgan Theatre in Berkeley.
