Buzz, by novelist, critic and n+1 co-founder Benjamin Kunkel, will receive its US premiere in a Brooklyn loft in the shadow of Barclays Center. Directed by Lian Walden, the site-specific production will run for six-weeks, October 18 through November 22, 2014.
Buzz follows the efforts of a pregnant woman and her playwright boyfriend to rid their apartment of the flies infesting the outside world. Funny and harrowing, it's a fast-paced story of love and art in a time of global warming.
The production reunites Kunkel and Walden, who staged the world premiere in Buenos Aires in 2011. Since then, the revised play has been published in book form by n+1, and an excerpt appeared in Harper's in July 2014.? 1st of the Month raved that Buzz "never wavers in its emotional authenticity."
The production team includes
Christopher Ash (Scenic/Lighting/Projection Design), Seth Bodie (Costume Design), Steve Brush (Sound Design/Composition), Marthe Hoffmann (Associate Scenic Design) and
Lanie Zipoy (Producer).
Previews begin October 18 with a press opening on October 26. Performances continue through November 22, Wednesday through Sunday at 8pm; no performance on Halloween, October 31, 2014 at Tom and Sasha's Loft, located on Douglass Street between Nevins and Third Avenue in Gowanus, Brooklyn; Subway: R to Union or N or B/D or 1/2 or 4/5 to Atlantic-Barclays.
