Tony Award winner Ben Vereen is traveling from Los Angeles to Houston, Texas today to be a special guest performer in The Musical Theatre of Houston's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Vereen will star as Pontius Pilate in a production directed and choreographed by Aaron Callies. The curtain rises for two shows August 19-20 at the Wortham Brown Theatre at 8:00pm both evenings and will include a cast of Sam Brown as Jesus, Jacqueline Grady as Mary Magdalene, and Tommie Harper as Judas.

The Musical Theatre of Houston is a new professional theatre organazation founded by director/choreographer Aaron Callies. The rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, will be the first production in the Wortham Brown theatre to make use of its brand new high tech moving stage lights! A Tony Award winner for his renowned performance in Bob Fosse's Pippin, Ben has gone on to solidify his place among Broadway royalty, with starring roles in such Broadway productions as Wicked, Fosse, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Jelly's Last Jam, Grind, A Christmas Carol and I'm Not Rappaport. Recent guest starring roles include Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, House of Payne and An Accidental Friendship.

Ben recently starred in the new play Fetch Clay, Make Man at the McCarter Theatre, directed by Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys) and has a recurring role on the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
