Beacon Riverfest 2010 To Rock On 6/26

Beacon_Riverfest_2010_To_Rock_On_626_20010101

GET READY TO ROCK! As featured in Hudson Valley magazine, The Poughkeepsie Journal, and Chronogram magazine...Three bands will headline on one center stage in a landmark event for Beacon: "Super Rock" legends The Fleshtones; Grammy-nominated recording artist and performer,
Tracy Bonham; and Brooklyn-based alt-country jam band, Yarn. Local 845 is producing Beacon Riverfest 2010 in partnership with the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA) and the City of Beacon in Beacon, New York's renovated Riverfront Park. Free and open to the public, the event will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 2pm to dusk-rain or shine.

Corporate Sponsors: Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Piggy Bank, Beacon Pilates, Marion Royael Gallery, Home Cooking New York, WKZE (98.1FM), The City of Beacon, and BACA.

The Fleshtones have been blending garage rock with R&B and dance, and serving it from town to town across the globe since 1976. Fixtures at legendary New York City clubs including CBGB's and Max's Kansas City, The Fleshtones also appeared regularly at Irving Plaza, Maxwell's, and 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The band signed with I.R.S. Records in 1980, for which they recorded five discs. They signed with Yep Roc Records in 2003, and a new CD compilation of the I.R.S. material is now available from Raven. The Fleshtones are Peter Zaremba (vocals, harmonica, and organ), Keith Streng (guitar and vocals), Bill Milhizer (drums & vocals), and Beacon resident Ken Fox (bass and vocals). From 1984 to 1987, Zaremba was host of MTV's "I.R.S. Records Presents The Cutting Edge."

Tracy Bonham is a classically trained violinist and pianist who attended the famed Berklee College of Music. Her debut album The Burdens of Being Upright garnered a No. 1 single with her song "Mother Mother," two Grammy nominations (Best Alternative Album and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance) and plenty of press acclaim; receiving an "A" in Entertainment Weekly. Bonham will be releasing her new album Masts of Manhatta on July 13, 2010.

Yarn has received quite a bit of buzz in the Americana world as a result of the band's first two recordings as well as strong performances at clubs and festivals. This Brooklyn-based band's self-titled debut record reached No. 14 on the AMA and R&R Radio Charts, and ranked No. 79 on the AMA's Top 100 Albums of 2007. Yarn's 2008 follow-up, Empty Pockets, which features guest appearances by Edie Brickell, Tony Trischka, Casey Dreissen and Caitlin Cary of Whiskeytown, spent months on the AMA charts. The album peaked at No. 5 and was honored with eight first-round 2009 Grammy nominations in several categories. Recorded at Mixolydian Studios in Lafayette, NJ in July 2009, Yarn's new album Come On In released on United for Opportunity (UFO) last month.

In only two years, Local 845 has brought nearly 100 artists from all over the U.S. to the historic Hudson River city of Beacon, spanning in style from folk, singer-songwriter, jazz, and swing to rock, urban and electronic. Founded and operated by singer-songwriter Stephen Clair, Local 845's trademark is providing a rich variety of concerts in well-known venues such as the Howland Cultural Center, as well as in non-traditional locales such as Open Space Gallery, Piggy Bank Restaurant and Spire Studios.
