The summer scene can be frantic in the Hamptons, but there is an oasis to be found on Thursday afternoons at Bay Street Theatre's "OUR TOWN" series. Each week, Bay Street's Artistic Director Murphy Davis chats with some of the most interesting people who live and work in our area, from artists and authors to playwrights and producers.
On Thursday, August 20th, April Gornik joins Mr. Davis on stage to talk about her long artistic career as a painter. Ms. Gornik is one of the great landscape painters of our time and her numerous one woman shows and exhibitions have given her a strong following. Born in Cleveland, Ohio she received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her work can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the National Museum of American Art in Washington, DC, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the Cincinnati Museum, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, the Modern Museum of Art of Fort Worth, the Orlando Museum of Art, and other major public and private collections. She has shown extensively, in one-person and group shows, in the United States and abroad. Gornik's style is not to paint from a photo or view but to use just as much of her imagination as she does the actual landscape.
On August 27th the series will continue with actor/producer Bob Balaban, followed by film and Broadway critic Jeffrey Lyons on September 3rd. All chats begin at 4pm.
