Bay Street Theatre Announces Its Winter 2009 Lineup

Bay Street Theatre is thrilled to announce their exciting line-up for the cold winter months ahead. The schedule will include the return of some of the fun programming that the community has come to know and love, as well as some brand new series and ‘Economy Buster' events for the entire East End to enjoy-and at rates that won't break the bank.

The 2009 Season kicks off with the already well-known and popular economy buster-- The Picture Show at Bay Street presented by BookHampton. On Friday and Saturday evenings beginning January 9th, classic Films are presented as they were meant to be seen - - on the big screen. The winter series begins with an Elvis Presley Weekend, with Love Me Tender on Friday, January 9th, and Roustabout on Saturday, January 10th. Tickets are $5 each and the doors open at 7:30 pm, movies start at 8:00 pm. The American Hotel has once again joined in the fun with a special "Dinner and A Movie" 3-course prix fixe meal and movie ticket for only $25! Call The American Hotel directly to make reservations.

KIDSTREET is also kicking off its new season with a BRAND NEW OFFERING: KIDS THEATRE CAMPS! The camps will be offered during school vacation weeks-the first will run daily, Feb 16-20th, from 9am to 3pm, and will feature a week-long opportunity for kids from ages 5-18. Taught by Broadway professionals and music and dance educators, this program will thrill both novices and experienced theatre kids alike. The week will be packed with fun as kids learn many of the dramatic crafts, including singing, dancing, acting, improvisation, performance, and more. Cost is $300/week per child and all are welcome. Kids will be required to bring a bag lunch and a great attitude. Call the Bay Street Administrative Offices at 631-725-0818, x109 for more information and an enrollment form. Class size is limited and deadline for sign-up is February 6th, space permitting.

In keeping with its goal of giving back to the community, Bay Street Theatre will continue with special community events that have been such a huge hit this fall. Tracy Mitchell, General Manager said, "Bay Street is a great place for people to gather. These events, held free for the public, help to bring neighbors together during a time when we all need an inexpensive way to keep the winter doldrums at bay." Bay Street's most recent event, the First Annual Holiday Concert & Sing-a-Long with Irish tenor Ciaran Sheehan and Brenda Landrum on piano, was a smashing success and is sure to become a great holiday tradition for years to come. The next free event will be on Tuesday, January 20th when Bay Street provides coverage of the Presidential Inauguration on its big screen. Coffee and refreshments will be available for purchase. Doors open at 10 am.

Looking ahead into February, Bay Street will launch a Saturday night Piano Bar and Cabaret Series. These evenings will begin at 10pm, as soon as the Picture Show ends each night. "We are looking for ways to keep our doors open during the quieter months ", said Murphy Davis, Artistic Director. "This is an experiment but we think it will be well received as so many people complain about the lack of things to do out here during the winter. And we'll have a cash bar available which will hopefully help us cover costs so we can keep the series going."

For a complete listing of events at Bay Street please check the website at www.baystreet.org.

Bay Street Theatre is a not-for-profit institution, dedicated to presenting new, classic and contemporary works of the highest quality, which challenge as well as entertain, speak to the diversity of the community and champion the human spirit. Bay Street's commitment extends to educational programs for all ages to foster the continued value of theatre as a vital art form for future generations
