Bathhouse & SPT to Present DRACULA, 7/5-7
The Bathhouse Ensemble (BE) and Seattle Public Theater (SPT) are proud to present Steven Dietz's adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic tale of horror and sensuality Dracula, directed by Ensemble member Simon Irving, running July 5-7, 2013 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake.
"I'm excited about [Dietz's] Dracula because of the element of true melodrama that underlines it," says director Simon Irving. "At its core, Dracula (as a story) is a huge, outsized, sensual romance. I want our version to stay true to that core, drawing out the drama and above all the tragedy of its central figure. There's a seriousness and honesty within all of the characters that informs every decision they make. The intensity of these themes makes this script difficult for the youth program to tackle, but BE's group of young adult actors are perfect for this show."
Dracula features the work of Ensemble members Andrew Marques, Audrey Howell, Aviva Wynn, Brooks Donohue, Jessa Lowe, Maggie Williams, Murren Kennedy, Peter Durning, Will Lavely, Zach Sanders, Max Pagel, Erica Thomas, Kyna Shilling, and Francesco D'Aniello.
Dracula performs July 5 at 7:00pm, July 6 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, and July 7 at 2:00pm. Tickets are free, with a suggested donation of $5-$10 to support the Ensemble. Tickets are available 30 minutes before showtime, with festival seating.
The Bathhouse Ensemble is a collective of young, dedicated theater artists who are alumni of SPT's education program. They are committed to independently producing challenging plays that actively draw in audiences; being an actor's studio for the continued training of the ensemble; fostering new works and new interpretations; and continually stretching their own capabilities and the minds of the audience and community.
