As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, Barbra Streisand recently revealed that she wants Lady Gaga to star in her upcoming GYPSY film, in which Streisand will play 'Mama Rose.' Now she opened up with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming movie, telling Jon Barret that she's "still working out one rights issue" and that "it should happen, but it just takes forever."

On whether she is too old to play the part, she responded: "Age is just a number. Some people look old at 45. Some people look younger at my age…. I saw CGI of an actor that made him go from 60 to 30, by the way. What they can do now, technically."

Streisand is said to be co-producing the film with Joel Silver at Universal Pictures, and the script is currently being written by Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes.

Streisand has appeared on Broadway in I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE and FUNNY GIRL. She has also received a special Tony Award. Her film work includes FUNNY GIRL, FUNNY LADY, YENTL, and NUTS. She has won numerous awards including the Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy awards.

GYPSY was last seen in a production that was first presented by Encores! from July 9 to 29, 2007 with Patti LuPone playing Rose, and direction by Arthur Laurents. Principal casting included Laura Benanti in the title role of "Gypsy/Louise", with Boyd Gaines as "Herbie", and Leigh Ann Larkin as "Dainty June."
