Baltimore Choral Arts Presents POETRY IN SONG, 5/5

By:

Music Director Tom Hall and Baltimore Choral Arts present "Poetry in Song," a unique concert experience showcasing how literature and music come together to create musical gems of the choral repertoire. The Chorus is joined by actor Kyle Prue for this performance on Sunday, May 5, at 3 pm in Grace United Methodist Church in Baltimore. Kyle Prue replaces Kwame Kwei-Armah who will be unable to participate in this program due to an engagement in London.

The concert features iconic poems by James Agee, Sara Teasdale, AlFred Lord Tennyson and others, presented both as spoken-word masterworks, and as powerful choral interpretations by composers including Morten Lauridsen, Arvo Pärt, and John Rutter. From Franz Biebl's popular Ave Maria, to Samuel Barber's famous Sure on this Shining Night, to the Baltimore premier of Jennifer Higdon's O Magnum Mysterium, the program includes a wide variety of choral music. Throughout the program, Tom and Kyle will discuss the impact of the written word on the creativity of the composer. Organist John Walker is also featured, performing Tournemire's Chorale-improvisation sur le Victimae Paschali Laudes. John Walker is Minister of Music Emeritus at Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore; Artist-in-Residence at Trinity Church, Long Green; and a member of the organ faculty at Peabody Conservatory of Music.

Kyle Prue is a founding member of the Everyman Theatre Resident Acting Company, and he has appeared in over 20 Everyman productions. He has performed at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Arena Stage, and Signature Theatre, and can be seen in the films The Pelican Brief and Tuck Everlasting.

Tickets are on sale now from $25 - $38. Tickets for students with ID are half price.

This concert is also made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.
