Bacon Brothers Bring The Grit Rock To The Van Wezel 11/20

By:

The Bacon Brothers bring their trademark gritty rock sound and a touch of Philly soul to the stage of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Friday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $30-$50 (a limited number of "Smart Seats" are available for $10).

The Bacon Brothers have proven to be a dynamic force on the American music scene and one of the most popular live bands on the concert circuit.

Long before Kevin Bacon became a movie star and pop culture phenomenon, and before his older brother Michael became a sought-after film and TV composer, the Philadelphia-based duo was collaborating as musicians. They wrote music as a team since childhood but didn't begin working together formally until 1995.

Their first CD, "Forosoco," (1997) -- an enticing mix of folk, rock, soul and country -- is a collection of rhythmic ballads and up-tempo songs infused with the sounds of the 60's and 70's . The duo's newest album, New Year's Day, incorporates jazzy blues and reggae into their sound.

What distinguishes The Bacon Brothers from other bands is their passion for telling a good story. Mark Birnbach, covering a recent concert for New York City's WNEW, wrote that "the brothers performed a sizzling set that left me in awe and the audience yearning for just one more song. The chemistry between the brothers electrified the room...The songs flowed smoothly to the fans who bounced in their seats lip synching to each song that was followed by a very loud roar of approval." Birnbaum added, "If you want to experience song writing at its best then you owe it to yourself to open your ears and your mind to the Bacon Brothers."

Tickets to The Bacon Brothers may be purchased at the Van Wezel Box Office, by calling (941) 953-3368 or by logging onto www.vanwezel.org. Dinner is available prior to the show at Michael's at the Van Wezel. For reservations, call 941/366-0007 or www.bestfood.com.

The Bacon Brothers show is sponsored by 107.9 SWRZ Radio.
