Back Home Again Makes World Premiere at Rubicon Theatre

By:

The Rubicon Theatre Company in Ventura, Calif. will welcome the holiday season with the world premiere of Back Home Again:  A John Denver Holiday Concert beginning previews Thursday, November 30, 2006.

"Back Home Again is a down-home country concert, a festive, fun-filled revue presented in the style of John Denver's popular Christmas specials.  The cast is led by Wheetman, and also includes Broadway favorite Jim Newman (The Who's Tommy, Steel Pier, Sunset Boulevard) and Nashville songbird Gail Bliss.  Songs include traditional modern Christmas carols, as well as popular Denver hits such as 'That God I'm a Country Boy,' 'Grandma's Feather Bed,' 'Matthew' and 'Back Home Again,'" state notes.

Tony Award-nominee Randal Myler (Ain't Nothing' But the Blues and Love Janis) directs this new musical along with co-creator and musical director Tony Award-nominee Dan Wheetman (It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues).

Singers and musicians appearing in Back Home Again include:  Jim Newman (Broadway's Minneli on Minnelli, Steel Pier, Sunset Boulevard and The Who's Tommy), Gail Bliss (first national tour of A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline), David P. Jackson, Jr. (performed with John Denver), Douglas Clegg and Wheetman.

"John Denver was a rare combination," says Rubicon Artistic Director James O'Neil, "a gifted performer and an extraordinary man who utilized his success to give greater visibility to the many causes that he championed.  The powers of his artistry and world vision continue to touch people all over the world."

Back Home Again previews Thursday, November 30 and Friday, December 1 and opens Saturday, December 2 for a limited engagement running through December 24, 2006 at the Rubicon Theatre, located at 1006 East Main Street in Ventura's Downtown Historic Cultural District.
