With the 70th Annual Tony Awards airing this Sunday, BroadwayWorld takes a look back at this year's nominees that have previously been nominated and/or won Tony Awards.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

This year's main man! Although HAMILTON broke the record for the most Tony Award nominations ever with sixteen, this isn't the first time Lin-Manuel Miranda has been nominated. In 2008, Miranda was nominated and won several Tony Awards for his musical IN THE HEIGHTS. The Tony Award winning musical that focuses on Washington Heights in NYC, earned Miranda Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Musical. He was also nominated for Best Actor for his work in the show.

Laura Benanti

Broadway's Queen of Funny is no stranger to the Tony Awards. Benanti has been nominated for five Tony Awards over her Broadway career. Her nominations include Best Featured Actress in a Musical for SWING!, Featured Actress in a Musical for INTO THE WOODS, Featured Actress in a Musical for GYPSY, Featured Actress in a Musical in WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, and now, Best Leading Actress in a Musical for SHE LOVES ME. Out of the five nominations, Benanti picked up her first big win for her portrayal of Louise in the recent revival of GYPSY.

Jeff Daniels

Before he graced the stage in BLACKBIRD this season opposite Michelle Williams, Jeff Daniels wowed audiences in 2009's GOD OF CARNAGE. The role earned him a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Play.


Sophie Okonedo

In 2014, Sophie Okonedo walked away with her first Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her work in A RAISIN IN THE SUN. This year's nomination for her work in THE CRUCIBLE marks her second nomination.

Danny Burstein

Danny Burstein is no stranger to the Tony Awards. His nomination this year for his work in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF marks his sixth Tony Award nomination. Burstein has previously been nominated for his work in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, SOUTH PACIFIC, FOLLIES, GOLDEN BOY, and CABARET. Out of the six nominations, Burstein has yet to walk away with a Tony Award. Who knows what this year's ceremony will bring?


Jessie Mueller

This year's Tony Award nomination for her work as Jenna in WAITRESS marks Jessie Mueller's third Tony Award nomination. She was previously nominated for her work in ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER and BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. Mueller netted her first ever win for originating the role of Carole King in BEAUTIFUL.

Laurie Metcalf

Laurie Metcalf's Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play for MISERY marks her third Tony Award nomination. She was previously nominated for THE OTHER PLACE and NOVEMBER.


Reed Birney

Reed Birney's nomination for his career-defining turn in THE HUMANS marks his second Tony Award nomination. He was first nominated in 2014 for Best Featured Actor in Play for CASA VALENTINA.


Gabriel Byrne

Gabriel Byrne's nomination for Best Actor in a Play for LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT is his second Tony Award nomination. His first nomination came in 2000 for Best Actor in a Play for his work in A Moon For the Misbegotten.


Andrea Martin

Andrea Martin is no stranger to the Tony Awards. Including her nomination this year for Best Featured Actor in a Play for NOISES OFF, she has been nominated for six Tony Awards. Martin was previously nominated for her work in MY FAVORITE YEAR, CANDIDE, OKLAHOMA!, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and PIPPIN. She won her first ever Tony Award in 2013 for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Berthe in the recent revival of PIPPIN.

Frank Langella

Frank Langella has been nominated for seven Tony Award nominations during his career. He's been nominated for his work in SEASCAPE, DRACULA, FORTUNE'S FOOL, MATCH, FROST/NIXON, MAN AND BOY, and now, for THE FATHER. Langella has won Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Play for FROST/NIXON, Featured Actor in a Play for FORTUNE'S FOOL and Featured Actor in a Play in SEASCAPE.

Jayne Houdyshell

Jayne Houdyshell's nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for THE HUMANS this year marks her third Tony Award nomination. She was previously nominated for her work in FOLLIES and WELL.


Jonathan Groff

Awesome, Wow! Jonathan Groff's nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his work as King George in HAMILTON is his second Tony Award nomination. His first nomination came in 2007 for originating the role of Melchior in SPRING AWAKENING.


Jane Krakowski

Jane Krakowski's nomination for her work in SHE LOVES ME marks her third Tony Award nomination. She was previously nominated for NINE and GRAND HOTEL. In 2003 she took home her first Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her work as Carla in NINE.
