It's the most highly anticipated opening in recent Broadway memory, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark officially celebrates their opening night on Tuesday, June 14 th at the Foxwoods Theatre. The show features creative consultation by Philip William McKinley (The Boy From Oz), original direction by Tony® Award-winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King, Across The Universe, Frida), music and lyrics by 22- time Grammy® Award-winners Bono and The Edge, and book co-written by Taymor, Glen Berger (Underneath The Lintel) and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Fantastic Four and Spider-Man comics, “Big Love”). This summer, BroadwayWorld.com introduced it's first, exclusive, fully scripted program series - SUBMISSIONS ONLY, created, written, and directed by Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. The pair also stars in the series, which enjoyed an extremely successful Season 1 on YouTube and was streamed throughout the summer on BroadwayWorld.com in anticipation of SUBMISSIONS ONLY's second season, which will now be broadcast EXCLUSIVELY on BroadwayWorld. The first episode of the new season was given it's first screening on Monday, September 26 for the company and today it goes live to the world on BroadwayWorld. Paper Mill Playhouse will open its 2011-2012 season with the premiere of a new Disney stage musical, Newsies. Featuring music by eight time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act, The Little Mermaid), lyrics by Jack Feldman and a new book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), Newsies is adapted for the stage from the live-action Disney feature film musical. The production is being directed at Paper Mill by Tony® nominee Jeff Calhoun (The Will Rogers Follies, Grey Gardens). The show begins performances on Thursday, September 15. The official press opening is scheduled for Sunday, September 25. Recently, BroadwayWorld stopped by the Newsies open call in New York City and went inside the audition room.
