It's one thing to watch your favorite Broadway performers on stage, but it's another to actually become a part of their show. During the week of April 27- May 1, 2009, top-rated morning program "Live with Regis and Kelly" are giving the show's nationwide TV audience a vicarious thrill when America's favorite co-hosts jump into the roles of some of the best Broadway characters during "On Broadway Week." And since it is a "Broadway WORLD" on "Live with Regis and Kelly" we just had to be there! The beloved tv co-hosts took a moment out of their very busy week to chat with BWW TV about what makes Broadway so special. We also revealed to Regis and Kelly what other theater roles you'd like to see them perform on Broadway!
"Live" showcases five hit Broadway musicals in a week-long salute to the best that Broadway has to offer. Co-host Kelly Ripa kicked off the week when she met the cast and crew of Disney's "Mary Poppins," and suited up in the famous nanny's costume and learned to fly just like the iconic character does in the hit show.
A rare joint performance by the three young leads of "Billy Elliot" also took place on the "Live" stage; and Regis Philbin gots his ‘80s rock-on when he joined the "Rock of Ages" cast in a performance of the popular hit song "Here I Go Again." The week continues when The Cast of "West Side Story" teaches Ripa a choreographed number which she will perform with them in the "Live" studio; and Philbin gets a complete makeover when he is transformed into the swamp-dwelling green ogre "Shrek" during his visit to the Broadway show. Plus, The Cast of "Shrek The Musical" will visit "Live" to perform in-studio as the curtain comes down on "On Broadway Week."
"Live with Regis and Kelly" is executive produced by Michael Gelman, and is distributed by Disney ABC Domestic Television. Produced by WABC-TV in New York, "Live with Regis and Kelly" airs in more than 200 markets across the country. To get more info go to www.bventertainment.go.com.
