AN AFFORDABLE OPTION FOR THEATRE-GOING PARENTS

Most of us can barely afford the tickets, but when you add in three or more hours of babysitting (and that's if you can FIND a sitter), seeing a show becomes a major investment. That's the thinking behind Playwrights Horizons new PLAYTIME program. The first of its kind in NYC, this innovative program will offer professional, affordable childcare during select performances, right in the same building where parents can take in a show.

PLAYTIME will be free to Playwrights Horizons subscribers and $15 per child for non-subscribers. (Still a bargain, considering the length of a show). They will debut the service during select performances of KIN, Playwrights' next production, and it is available for kids ages 4-12. (It's a diaper-free zone).

The childcare is provided by Sitters Studio, and all of the caregivers are working artists who are CPR certified and background checked. Kids will enjoy arts-driven activities like music time and craft projects while Mom or Dad (or whatever combination thereof) enjoy some of the best of Off Broadway.

Personally, I'm hoping the program is well-attended enough to be expanded....right now they are offering three matinees. In fact, I'm thinking it would be great if every theatre company offered a childcare option....maybe also the grocery store, Duane Read and my hair salon? Ah, well. A mom can dream.

GET TO THE POINT, MOM!
