Cutting-Edge Composers is in the studio with Eli Bolin exclusively on Broadwayworld.com. We caught up with Eli to find out about his upcoming productions of Found at NY Stage and Film, and Volleygirls, starring Susan Blackwell, at NYMF. Check out the video for insight into Eli's writing process, and a sneak peek at two songs from two of his latest musicals! A composer for television and theater based in NYC, Eli has been writing music for SESAME STREET since 2010, where his songs have included Cookie Monster's "Me Am What Me Am" and two episodes of ELMO: THE MUSICAL. He has also written music for FUSE's BILLY ON THE STREET and two Kristen Schaal specials for Comedy Central. As an actor and musician, Eli appeared on NBC's 30 ROCK as a member of the Woggels. Eli is the music director, composer and lyricist for STORY PIRATES, an arts education organization with branches in NYC and L.A. that performs songs and sketches adapted from the creative writing of children all over the country. His musical VOLLEYGIRLS (Lyrics: Sam Forman, dir. Neil Patrick Stewart) premieres this summer as part of the 2013 New York Musical Theater Festival. His Lucille Lortel-nominated musical of popular children's book SKIPPYJON JONES ran to rave reviews off-Broadway in the summer of 2012 and will be heading out this fall for its 3rd year of touring with Theatreworks/USA (Book/Lyrics: Kevin Del Aguila, dir. Peter Flynn.) Eli wrote the score for ROLLER DISCO, which opened to rave reviews in 2012 at American Repertory Theater's Oberon space in Cambridge, MA (Lyrics: Sam Forman, dir. Jen Wineman). He is currently writing music and lyrics for FOUND, a new musical inspired by notes, letters and photographs first published in Found Magazine (Book: Hunter Bell & Lee Overtree; dir. Lee Overtree). Other musicals include off Broadway's I SING! (dir. Benjamin Salka, cast album: Jay Records), SCHMOOZY TOGETHERNESS (Williamstown Theatre Festival, dir. Johanna McKeon), FRINGICAL! (NYMF, dir. Thomas Kail), all with lyrics by Sam Forman. Eli served as music director/arranger for Billy Eichner's long-running NYC comedy show CREATION NATION.
