Last year, BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater website on the Internet, launched a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country. This free service makes it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

With the new school year in full gear, BWW has updated the fully-interactive Student Show Calendar with 2011-2012 student productions. We have also made it easy for schools to upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. In addition, BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

Today, we're thrilled to shine the BWW Spotlight on the students and faculty at San Diego State UniversityThe School of Theatre at San Diego University offers graduate and undergraduate programs for students interested in pursuing the arts as a career or looking to enrich their academic knowldge in a liberal arts setting. The school offers a Bachelor of Arts in General Theatre with options to major in Performance, Children's Drama, or Design and Technology. Graduate students have the opportunity to work toward a Master of Arts in Theatre Arts, Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design, or pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, one of only three such pre-professional programs in the country.

In 2001, the Department of Theatre was merged with the School of Television and Film. This merge created countless opportunities for cross-collaboration in studies and performance and also equips students with the tools to venture into various fields once they graduate. Part of the curriculum at San Diego State encompasses a busy performance season with the school hosting up to six productions per season. The 2011-2012 stage season began with John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning play 'Doubt' (see a behind-the-scenes video here!), the feel-good musical 'The Boyfriend' (check out photos from the production here), and the emotionally-charged 'Lydia' (click here for photos). Rounding off the season will be 'Squawk', the musical fairy-tale 'Zana, Don't!', and 'Vinegar Tom'. To purchase tickets or for more information, click here.
