BWW Student Center's School in the Spotlight: Binghampton University

By:

The BroadwayWorld Student Centeris a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country making it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

The Student Center also offers a show calendar of college and high-school productions where schools can upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

Today, we're thrilled to feature the Theatre Department at Binghampton University in New York!

The Theatre Department provides graduate and undergraduate curricula in the history, theory and practice of theater for liberal arts students as well as for students preparing for active competition in some aspects of the academic or professional theater.
Students in all disciplines are eligible to participate in theatre and dance activities in the department, whether or not they intend to major or actually declare a major in theatre.

The Binghamton University Theatre Department offers courses and degree programs for both a Bachelor of Arts and aMaster of Arts. Undergraduates concentrate in one of the following three areas: Acting/Directing, Dance or Design and Technical Theatre, while graduate students can concentrate on either Directing, Theory, Performance or Technical Production and Design; however graduate students are not required to choose a concentration.
A Theatre Minor is also available, as is a combined Theatre BA/Masters in Public Administration program. For more information on the degree programs offered at Binghampton, click here.

The Mainstage Season typically features four productions, including one musical, which are directed by regular faculty members and guest artists.

Casts and crews are comprised of both undergraduate or graduate students and are occasionally augmented by guest artists. The Studio Season varies from year to year in content and personnel involvement as might be expected. There are four levels of Studio Productions: in-the-works, showcase, thesis and faculty-directed.

Up next as part of the MainStage season is Sarah Ruhl's DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE directed by Elizabeth Mozer. The production runs March 8 thru 16 at the Watters Theater in the Fine Arts Building.

Also slated for this year is COSMOGONY, an annual dance show directed and choreographed by JoEllen Kuhlman and running April 12-14. A MIDSUMMER NIGH'S DREAM will play April 26 thru May 5 and is co-directed by Tom Kremer and Rodrigo Nunez. Click here for tickets and more information.
