BWW Reviews: Trevor Ashley's FAT SWAN - Wickedly Funny

By:

Trevor Ashley returns to the Arts Centre in his riorous four hander Fat Swan. The writing is some of the most wickedly funny, sharp, edgy work to be presented on an Australia stage and is performed to perfection by Ashley himself, along with Genevieve Lemon, Brendan Moar and Danielle Barnes.

Fat Swan is a parody of the Film BLACK SWAN starring Natalie Portman. Ashley adopts the character of Natalie Portly and takes the audience on a whirlwind journey of the film, specifically the casting and untimately the performance of Swine Lake, replacing Swan lake, with Ashley dancing both the white pig and the black.

Not only is the comedy brilliantly written, it is masterfully executed by all four performers with an excellent balancing act either side of the fourth wall. There is never a dull moment in this pantomime and it proves to be a vehicle for all four performers to shine throughout the evening.

Vocal and acting performances throughout were first class, as was creativity and imagination. If you are in Melbourne next weekend this show is a must-see.

Fat Swan plays The Arts Centre Melbourne until October 6, 2012. All tickets $55. Restricted to Adults over the age of 18.
