BWW Recaps: Christine Ebersole Returns to Landmark On Main Street
At the Jeanne Rimsky Theatre at Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington, Christine Ebersole joked that the theme of the evening was "death of cabaret". It was hard to believe her as the Tony winner fantastically entertained the audience, choosing selections spanning her career on the stage as well as familiar favorites.
Ms. Ebersole looked stunning in a white suit as she kicked off the evening with the ever fitting "Strike Up The Band". Indeed, the band she had on stage was as brilliant as she.
Of the more recognizable selections was "Johnny One Note" from Babes In Arms to which I caught a handful of the audience dancing in their seats. Additionally, Ms. Ebersole performed the title track to 42nd Street, one of her Tony wins. For her finale, she put together a beautiful medley of "Another Winter" and "Drift Away" from her other Tony winning performance in Grey Gardens. She also gave a great rendition of "Blow Gabriel Blow" from Anything Goes.She also went on a Frank Sinatra theme with the standards which included "Pennies From Heaven" and "Stormy Weather". She also selected "Right As The Rain” made popular by Lena Horne which was gorgeous. The audience also really loved her rendition of "That's Him". She dedicated this song to her husband, Bill. She told a hilarious story from when they were dating when he uttered four important words that made her fall for him... "Let's talk about you”.
It was hard to leave your seat after Christine ended her show. The audience at Landmark on Main Streets' Jeanne Rimsky Theatre was extremely receptive and Ms. Ebersole humbly soaked it all in. I'm sure the enthusiastic, sold-out crowd would share my hope to see her back on the boards soon as her last appearance on Broadway was 2009’s Blithe Spirit.
