BWW Flashback: THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD Ends Romp on Broadway Today

Roundabout Theatre Company's acclaimed new Broadway production of Rupert Holmes' Tony Award winning musical comedy The Mystery of Edwin Drood ends its engagement on Broadway at Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street) today, March 10th, 2013. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you a flashback of Drood's frollick on the Great White Way!

Directed by Scott Ellis, The Mystery of Edwin Drood features choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by Paul Gemignani. The design team includes Anna Louizos (sets), William Ivey Long (costumes), Brian Nason (lighting), Tony Meola (sound) and Paul Huntley (hair & wigs).

The Mystery Of Edwin Drood stars Stephanie J. Block (Edwin Drood), Will Chase (John Jasper), Gregg Edelman (Reverend Mr. Crisparkle), Jim Norton (Chairman) and Chita Rivera (Princess Puffer) with Andy Karl (Neville Landless), Jessie Mueller (Helena Landless), Betsy Wolfe (Rosa Bud), Nicholas Barasch (Deputy), Peter Benson (Bazzard), Robert Creighton (Durdles), Alison Cimmet, Nick Corley, Janine DiVita, Jenifer Foote, Justin Greer, Shannon Lewis, Spencer Plachy, Kiira Schmidt, Eric Sciotto, Jim Walton.

Take a trip back in time to a Victorian music hall where a rowdy ensemble of actors mounts a staging of Charles Dickens' unfinished novel. Everyone on stage is a suspect in the murder of young Edwin Drood, and it's up to you to choose the killer! Is it John Jasper, Edwin's protective but slightly maniacal uncle? Rosa Bud, his reluctant betrothed? The debauched Princess Puffer? Each performance ends differently, depending on what the audience decides!

First, check out some of BroadwayWorld's exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the actors of the Music Hall Royale preparing to open The Mystery of Edwin Drood on Broadway.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood began previews on October 19th. First highlights from the show follow!

Edwin Drood officially opened on November 13th, 2012 at Studio 54 on Broadway for a limited engagement through February 10th, 2013 (which was then extended four weeks through today). BroadwayWorld was there to bring readers all the excitement of opening night. Scroll down for production photos, shots from the curtain call, and interviews with the cast!

The company of The Mystery of Edwin Drood also celebrated their opening night with the Gypsy Robe ritual with the company's recipient Eric Sciotto. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the event. Check out photos below!

In preparation for the two-disc Edwin Drood cast album, the company gathered at DRG Records. BroadwayWorld was there for the recording session. See below!

Then, on January 23rd, the cast of The Mystery of Edwin Drood celebrated the birthday of Broadway legend and cast member Chita Rivera.

On Monday, December 10th, DRG Records released the cast album of the new 2012 Broadway production as a two-disc set that also includes a new Act Two opening number, additional ballet music from Puffer's opium den, an additional Act One track not previously recorded and eight tracks featuring the confession of each murderer.

Stars Stephanie J. Block, Betsy Wolfe and Jessie Mueller performed from the album at the Upper East Side Barnes & Noble (86th & Lexington Ave.) this weekend, March 8, joined by Will Chase, Jim Norton, Gregg Edelman and Chita Rivera for a CD signing following the performances.

And, for now, we say farewell to Edwin Drood! But who knows, he might not be gone for long - each performance ends how the audience decides...
