BWW Exclusive: Designer Matthew Christopher Shows Off the Wedding Wardrobe of HONEYMOON IN VEGAS!

Honeymoon in Vegas, which is currently in previews at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street), tells the story of Jack Singer (Rob McClure), a regular guy with an extreme fear of marriage, who finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy (Brynn O'Malley) to marry him. But when they head to Las Vegas to get hitched, smooth talking gambler Tommy Korman (Tony Danza), looking for a second chance at love, falls head over heels for Betsy. What happens next is anybody's bet!

The impending wedding requires a dress for leading lady Brynn O'Malley, and costume designer Brian C. Hemesath enlisted the help of designer Matthew Christopher for the special project. He told BroadwayWorld:

"The collaboration came about because I knew Matthew had created his own line of wedding dresses with a unique take on the genre and I looked through his catalogue to see if he might have something that harkened back to the 50's glamour we wanted to capture with the show. The Joy gown fit the bill and we started talking. I've known Matthew for years, we met when I went to Iowa State University to design a show and he was a student there.

The "Joy gown" was a great start and we needed to tweak it just a bit for our purposes. We removed the cap sleeves so Brynn would have a better range of motion as well as having a slightly more daring sihouette. We also added the silver and bead belt to the dress to give it a little more color. Lastly we removed the hoop and added a heavy duty zipper to facilitate the quick changes we needed to accomplish with the dress. Small changes but ones that just gave the dress a little more of the "vegas" style we wanted to achieve. The people at Matthew Christopher Inc were so helpful and generous and bent over backward to help us out. The dress is built to last with beautiful attention to detail and we couldn't be happier with it!"

The Joy Gown is such a playful dress, it is a perfect fit for a boisterous, romantic Vegas wedding. Joy is a designed for celebrating. It is a delightful tea length silk duchess gown with a tank strap for easy movement, a delicate V-neck and a perfectly fitted waist. The style evokes the 1950's and 1960's, a huge inspiration for so many of my designs. I am so proud to watch the Joy Gown dip and spin on the Broadway stage as well as in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. The tulle petticoats edged with satin ribbon make for an exciting and dramatic look and feel for stage, weddings and even the red carpet.
