Happy New Year! My very first blog for Broadway World. So excited to start the new year connected to the community this way. Many thanks to Christina Manusco for hooking me up.
With all the energy shifting this past year, I have felt very fortunate to continue to dabble in areas of my creativity. We just have to keep going and reflecting back, it's been wonderful singing to the masses of people at Performing Arts Centers across the country.
I mostly sing the big Broadway tunes from the roles I've played, like Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miz, CATS, etc...What I think is amazing is that I bring these songs back to life to people that are not from NYC or in the theater community. They eat it up! The reactions I receive is that they felt like they didn't need the big set or the lights. Since it was up close and personal and in concert fashion, they LOVE that I have played all these roles and they "went" there with me as I revisited them.
Experiencing that has given me a new perspective. Even though these songs have pretty much "done their time" here in NY, they still pack a punch everywhere else. And the audience actually going through the journey with someone who has actually played the roles, well...they get really moved. This has taught me to never take my talent or a song that I sing a million times for granted. I think I will sing "Memory" till I die as long as it affects someone deeply.
