Broadway Cleans House, a yard sale featuring items from Broadway performers, takes place today, Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm at Pearl Studios in New York City. Organized by Kate Shindle (Wonderland, Legally Blonde, Cabaret, Jekyll & Hyde), the sale will feature donations and sale items from cast members of Godspell, The Addams Family, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, A Chorus Line, and many others. Expect to find one-of-a-kind opening night presents and show relics, along with clothes, books and furniture.

The complete event flier promises “sheet music/tools/opening night gifts/our old headshots/souvenir programs/clothes that seemed like a good idea at the time/cast albums/unreleased demos/dresses worn to the tonys/stuff that hangs on the walls/vases/books/dvds/show jackets/sports equipment/ candlesticks/costume pieces we got to take home/dance shoes/and at least one george foreman grill.”

Regarding the event, Shindle says, “We had a rash of dog abandonments in our dog run last summer, and we needed a place to turn. The Humane Society was an incredible resource for several orphaned pets, so we wanted to find a way to repay their kindness. The outlook for an abandoned pit bull in Harlem isn’t so great--we were really blessed that Sandra DiFeo and Bill Berloni (whom I met on Legally Blonde and who volunteers an amazing number of hours) led the charge to help these unwanted pets and keep them off of death row.”

Shindle added: “This event is in no way intended to compete with the annual BC/EFA Flea Market--although we’ll have a lot of cool show stuff there, I’ll bet you fifty bucks that you won’t get to meet Angela Lansbury. We just wanted to give our friends a chance to connect with fans and unload the stuff that maybe they didn’t need (or are paying to store). We’re doing this as a complete one-off, with an eBay auction to follow in a month or two for the higher-ticket items. So come early--doors open at 10 am--and grab yourself some cool swag and picture frames and sneakers and stuff. It’s all priced to sell--the last thing anyone wants to do is box it up and put it back in storage.”

Broadway Cleans House will provide a bag check--on a limited basis--for larger items, if theatergoers would like to pick them up following their Sunday matinees. Doors close at 6 p.M. Sharp. Cash strongly preferred; credit cards accepted on a case-by-case basis. No early birds, please.

Proceeds benefit The Humane Society of New York, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) established to foster the humane care of animals through a fully staffed medical clinic, animal shelter and public education programs, as well as an adoption program to place animals with qualified new owners.

Pearl Studios is located at 500 8th Avenue on the 12th floor. Broadway Cleans House will be held in Studio #1204. Special thanks to Steve Roath for generously donating the space.
