By:

Join Art & Soul featured artist Mike Graves as he paints on and off the canvas - maybe even spectators - at the Indianapolis Artsgarden, on Thursday, August 13 at 7 p.m.

Contemporary American artist Mike Graves was born in Indiana. Extensive travel with his military family provided much influence and cultural diversity for many years before he made his way back to Indianapolis in 1992 to attend Herron School of Art, where he studied sculpting and painting for two and a half years. Through his passion for art and his life experiences, he has developed an artistic identity that includes: painter, sculptor, musician.

For more information about Mike Graves, or Art & Soul, visit www.indyarts.org/artsoul.

This event has FREE Admission, and is presented by the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Artsgarden is above the intersection of Illinois & Washington Streets Downtown in Indianapolis, IN, 46204.

Art & Soul is a celebration of African American art and artists in Indiana. One of the most visible and exciting programs in the Artsgarden is Art & Soul, an annual celebration of African-American art and artists in Indiana featuring a diverse lineup of music, poetry, storytelling, dance, and visual art. This signature program of the Arts Council of Indianapolis showcases some of the state's most creative African-American artists during Black History Month in February. All of the Art & Soul performances are free and open to the public.

Since its inception in 1996, Art & Soul has become a highly anticipated annual tradition for the thousands who attend the festival during Black History Month, expanding their awareness and appreciation of African-American art. Unlike any other festival in central Indiana, Art & Soul celebrates the traditional and contemporary rhythms, movements, textures, and colors that distinguish African-American art and artists in Indiana.
