Andrea Martin to Launch TD Canadian Children's Book Week 11/14

By:

Tony Award Winner AndRea Martin is set to kick off and close festivities for the TD Canadian Children's Book Week. The popular actress, perhaps best known for her work on SCTV (for which she won two Emmy's) will read Mordecai Richler's classic book Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, a story about a young boy who has to say everything twice in order to be heard by his older Brothers and Sisters. When Jacob gets imprisoned by the dreaded Hooded Fang, he begins to learn that being small does not necessarily mean being helpless.

TD Canadian Children's Book Week is the single most important national event celebrating Canadian children's books and the importance of reading. It takes place every November, and this year the theme will center on sports in preparation for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Just like the performing arts, literacy and reading are incredibly important outlets that often get neglected in today's TV-centric society, and this event serves to help remind people of the amazing literature Canada has to offer its children.

In addition to her work on SCTV, AndRea Martin also won a Tony Award for her performance in My Favorite Year (for which she also won a Drama Desk and Theatre World Award) and received Tony nominations for her work in Candide, Oklahoma! and Young Frankenstein (which is coming to Toronto in 2010 courtesy of Mirvish Productions). She also recently finished a stint on Broadway in the revival of Exit the King alongside Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon.

Ms. Martin's reading will likely be a once in a lifetime event, something that will satisfy both children and grown-ups alike. If you enjoy the arts, be sure to get your tickets to this event before it is completely sold out!
