Andrea Burns, Jennifer Mudge, et al. Set for Hangar Theatre's ROBYN IS HAPPY Reading, 9/26
The Hangar Theatre kicks off its second Pilot Reading Series in NYC with a great new play by Michael Elyanow, directed by the Hangar's Artistic Director, Peter Flynn.
The play, Robyn Is Happy, centers around three women whose lifelong friendship is threatened when one of them finds happiness with the most unlikely of partners. The cast includes New York theatre notables including: Jennifer Mudge, Andréa Burns (In The Heights, The Hangar's Ever So Humble), as well as Clea Lewis (Ellen, MCC's Last Easter).

MICHAEL ELYANOW (Playwright) is the author of more than two dozen plays and screenplays. His work has been produced across the US, from DC to LA. Plays include A LASTING MARK, which was selected this year as part of Manhattan Theatre Club's 7 @ 7 Readings Series -- and was originally commissioned by and workshopped at Hartford Stage Company; THE CHILDREN, which was also workshopped at Hartford Stage, as well as Shakespeare & Company; LULLABY, which has received readings and workshops at The Lark Play Development Center (2010), Boston's Lyric Stage (2009) and LA's Blank Theatre (2007). Michael has written three short plays: BANGING ANN COULTER is published by Playscripts, Inc., in the anthology Great Short Comedies, Volume 3 and was produced at Miami's City Theatre (2010). It was a finalist for the 2004 Humana Festival's Heideman Award. GAME/OVER was produced at The Source Festival in DC (2009) and was a finalist for the 2008 Heideman Award. A FEW MORE DUMB PROPOSITIONS will be published by Playscripts in 2011. Michael's award-winning play THE IDIOT BOX is published by Samuel French and received its World Premiere production by Naked Eye Theatre Company in 2003 at Chicago's Theatre Building, under the direction of Jeremy B. Cohen, who also directed its second production at LA's Open Fist Theatre in 2007. It has gone on to have productions at The Hartt School (2010) and Cal State Fullerton (2011). Michael is currently developing a TV pilot with Tagline Television and is a guest teaching artist at The Guthrie Theater.
Peter Flynn (Director/Hangar Artistic Director) Directing credits at the Hangar include the world premiere of Tim Pinckney's Ever So Humble starring Andréa Burns, Dirty Blonde starring Tony nominee Emily Skinner, David Mamet's November starring Broadway veteran Wally Dunn, Penelope of Ithaca with local luminary Susannah Berryman, and Man of La Mancha starring Richard Adams & Natascia Diaz. Jones, nominated for Lucille Lortel Award - Best Musical, and Rhapsody in Seth at Actors' Playhouse starring Seth Rudetsky. As a writer, commission: Huntington Theatre with writing partner, composer/lyricist Brooks Ashmanskas. Graduate: Northwestern University.
Stephanie Yankwitt (Hangar Associate Artistic Director: Head of Casting & New Works) Over the past three years, Stephanie has cast over a dozen plays & musicals at the Hangar including August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean starring Lizan Mitchell, Ever So Humble starring Andrea Burns, the regional premiere of RENT starring Eric Jordan Young, and David Mamet's November, a play she also assisted on it's world premiere with Mr. Mamet and Joe Mantello. In addition to casting at the Hangar, Stephanie has cast for Hartford Stage, Atlantic Stage 2, Ars Nova, Second Stage Uptown, and Actors Theatre of Louisville - working on mostly new plays, which is her passion. Stephanie has helped to develop by both Casting and Directing, over 30 new plays including playwrights Alan Ball, Craig Wright, Laura Eason, Anton Dudley, Kristoffer Diaz, and Bekah Brunstetter. Stephanie started casting at Bernie Telsey Casting in 2003. She currently teaches at NYU Tisch School of the Arts/Stella Adler Studio.
