An Enemy of the People-Free Play Reading in Oakland Park
The Ghost Light Series continues to showcase local stage actors in play readings, concentrating on established material by seasoned playwrights. From June to August, Ghost Light will be collaborating with the libraries of Wilton Manors and Oakland Park in order to bring classic material by iconic playwrights to the public.
The second presentation in Ghost Light's Summer Sessions will be a reading of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People.Arthur Miller's adaptation of the Ibsen drama centers on a scientist who assists in creating a water supply that brings prosperity and prominence to his hometown. But when he finds out later that the water is contaminated, the doctor challenges the mayor (who happens to be his brother) to fix the problem; therefore setting up the citizens to turn against the doctor. A battle of wills ensues that threatens the doctor's ethics, family and his own life.Arthur Miller adapted the play in 1950, making the text as vivid as it was in Henrik Ibsen's time. The central theme is the same: The truth is still out there, whether we want to face it or not!The presentation of An Enemy of the People will be on Monday, July 24th 2006, 7:30pm in the Marie Wright Room at the Oakland Park Library, 1298 NE 37th Street. Admission is Free. For more information, please call (954) 270-0998 or e-mail them at ghostlightseries@
