Amy Stevenson and Mark Mullino Vocalize Smoothly at Phases

By:
Phases Bar is a great place to see a show.  Owner Dale Alexander has created a warm, comfortable environment where you can relax with an interesting mix of people and see quality entertainers.

On Wednesday, November 1, the featured entertainers were vocalist Amy Stevenson and vocalist-pianist Mark Mullino.  Miss Stevenson has a fine way with a song.  She is a real belter who literally puts her heart and soul into every song she sings.  She was in fine form during such numbers as "Glory of Love" and "I Dreamed a Dream."  Miss Stevenson interacted with the audience in a free and easy manner—and performed requests readily.  Her impromptu rendition of "Bring Him Home" for a patron was an amazing combination of vocal styling and hasty ad-libbing.

Mr. Mullino was a joy at the piano.  He was quite polished and relaxed at the keyboard.  His vocal skills were also superior—as evidenced when he joined Miss Stevenson in "I Guess That's Why They Call it The Blues."  When the two sang "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" and "The Way You Look Tonight" in counterpoint, it was sheer heaven.  Mr. Mullino is a genuine Renaissance Man—besides playing the piano and singing, he also wrote the arrangements for a frantic cha-cha version of "Some Enchanted Evening" that brought down the house!  In addition, Mr. Mullino is an accomplished songwriter who wrote one of the songs he and Miss Stevenson performed, "Gonna Find Somebody To Love Me."  Not satisfied with just being a skilled musician, Mr. Mullino is also a professional painter whose artwork covers the wall of Phases.

For a brief period, Phases' Entertainment Director Buddy Shanahan took over the piano and played for Miss Stevenson.  Mr. Shanahan is superb at the keys and partnered Miss Stevenson beautifully.  They performed three songs together, including their signature song, "Close to You."

Phases Bar offers varied entertainment every week from Wednesday through Sunday.  For a list of upcoming events, please visit their website.
