People.com reports that AMERICAN IDOL's Ruben Studdard will appear as a contestant on the next season of NBC's 'Biggest Loser.' The Season 2 champ will attempt to once and for all be the victor in his constant battle with obsesity.

In 2006, the singer, who attempted to lose weight on a strict 1200-calorie per day regime, told People Magazine, "I was losing weight, but I was exhausted. It was making me sick." He went on to add, "I'm a big man. There was no way to do those workouts on that amount of food, so everything was contradicting itself."

Studdard followed that failed attempt by becoming a vegetarian, which helped him lose more than 70 pounds. "Every week we would start by writing out a meal plan and calories," Studdard said. "The people at the vegetarian store in Birmingham are like, 'What's he doing in here?' " The singer put back the weight following his divorce in 2012.

"I've never had an issue with my weight," the 35-year-old explained, "[But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues - things I didn't have to deal with yet because I'm young. But I don't want to be worried at 40, and if I don't fix things now, I will be."

The next season of NBC's The Biggest Loser will air on Tuesdays beginning this Fall.
