Tony Award-winner Alice Ripley's new single, "Beautiful Eyes," is now available from iTunes and other digital music vendors, it was announced today. "Beautiful Eyes" is the first original song of Ms. Ripley's since the 2006 release of her band's album Outtasite, and follows her February 2011 cover set, Daily Practice.
Although Ripley is best known for her Tony Award-winning role in Next to Normal and beloved turns in cult musicals like Side Show, The Who's Tommy and The Rocky Horror Show, "Beautiful Eyes" marks a return to another musical genre – alterna-pop – alongside her band RIPLEY, which features Ms. Ripley on lead vocals and guitar and includes Christopher Schelling on keyboards and Shannon Ford on drums and percussion.
"Making music has saved my life," Ms. Ripley said. "With any luck, 'Beautiful Eyes' will do the same for RIPLEY fans and new listeners alike. 'Why won't you answer the musical question? / Where did you get those Beautiful Eyes?' the chorus of the song asks, and then the verse spins out a story. The lyrics are mysterious, but one thing's for sure: it sounds like a really fun party."
A music video for "Beautiful Eyes" has been shot by director John Carucci and will be online in March.
