Algonquin Seaport Theater Seeks Plays About Derek Jeter

Artistic Director Tony Sportiello announces that the Algonquin Seaport Theater is actively looking for short plays which in some way, shape or form touch on the Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter, to be presented at the Algonquin Seaport Theater. The shows can be anywhere from ten minutes to thirty minutes at length. They do not have to include Mr. Jeter in their play (or an actor portraying the athlete) but his presence should be palpable. An obsessed fan, for example. A rival agent or ballplayer. A father and son watching the Yankees on TV.

The selected shows will be produced at the Algonquin Seaport Theater for two weeks in October. The restaurant Harbour Lights, twenty-three years and counting at their location on the South Street Seaport, will sponsor the evening and judge the evening. They will present their favorite show with a free meal at their establishment, located on the third floor. The restaurant features a spectacular view of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Algonquin Seaport Theater is a new performance space located on the second floor of Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport. In existence since 2004, Algonquin has previously produced the Off Broadway shows "Sessions", "The Devil and Billy Markham" and "An Evening at the Carlyle", as well as "From Gershwin to Berlin", "LOL", "National Pastime", "Same Train", "Just One Of Those Things" and many others.
