Algonquin Seaport Theater Presents Second Of Its Bridge Plays

Artistic Director Tony Sportiello announces that the Algonquin Seaport Theater will present the second in its series of Bridge Plays, featuring plays whose backdrop is set against the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. The challenge was for playwrights to write or adapt plays so that their setting is the view seen outside the windows of the Algonquin Seaport Theater. Boats, cars and even tourists passing by may be incorporated into the shows. The first set of plays were performed in June at the unique new seaport location on Pier 17 and proved to be a tremendous success.
The second series starts August 15th and runs through August 25th. Included in this set of plays are:"A Thousand Words", written by Ken Jaworowski, directed by Kathryn Long, featuring Lori Faiella"Que Son", written by Bretton Holmes, directed by Debra Henri, featuring Carla Brandberg andBecca Schall"The Power and the Glory", written by Le Wilhelm directed by Merry Beamer, featuring Joan Pelzer and Kirsten Walsh"Checkmate", written and directed by Tony Sportiello, featuring Paul Kawecki and Michael ReillyThe shows will run Monday through Thursday at 7pm. Tickets are $15The Algonquin Seaport Theater is a new performance space located on the second floor of Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport. In existence since 2004, Algonquin has previously produced the Off Broadway shows "Sessions", "The Devil and Billy Markham" and "An Evening at the Carlyle", as well as "From Gershwin to Berlin", "LOL", "National Pastime", "Same Train", "Just One Of Those Things" and many others.
